The Challenge: Design a brand identity and user-friendly interface for a travel app that combines event discovery and accommodation booking in one seamless experience.

Stay’n Play bridges the gap between finding things to do and finding a place to stay. Inspired by platforms like Airbnb and Ticketmaster, the app lets users browse local events and instantly see nearby rentals—or search for events happening during their booked stay. The goal was to create a bold, modern identity that communicates ease, excitement, and flexibility, while delivering a clean, intuitive UI that makes trip planning feel effortless.

Travel planning apps tend to focus on one aspect of the experience, either booking a stay or purchasing event tickets. But modern users expect more seamless, connected tools to enhance how they plan and enjoy their trips. Stay’n Play was created to bridge that gap. Drawing inspiration from Airbnb, known for its global network of short-term rental listings, and Ticketmaster, a major platform for browsing, buying, and reselling event tickets, this app offers both functionalities in one place. Users can browse upcoming events in any area and instantly find a nearby rental, or, if they’ve already booked a place, they can search for local events happening during their stay. Whether someone is planning a weekend music festival trip or searching for something to do while visiting a new city, Stay’n Play removes the need to toggle between apps or juggle different plans. It simplifies the trip-planning process by putting events and stays side by side, all from one clean, intuitive interface.

Context

Stay’n Play set out to create an identity that not only merged two key functionalities, event discovery and accommodation booking, but also communicated ease, excitement, and flexibility. The logo brings this concept to life by blending a ticket and a house icon, visually representing the core duality of the app. The icon is bold and graphic, easy to recognize on a phone screen while maintaining a playful yet modern aesthetic. The color palette reinforces the energy and contrast of the app’s function: hot pink injects energy and approachability; deep purples ground the brand in trust and sophistication. The typography choice, Poppins, adds to this balance, its rounded, geometric letterforms lend a friendly, digital-native feel while maintaining professional clarity. The strategy was also about designing for convenience. Features like the ability to “like” events and rentals, a bottom navigation with dedicated tabs for Home, Your Trips, and Profile, and integrated maps with directions, all make the user journey smoother and more intuitive. The experience becomes less about logistics and more about inspiration, spontaneity, and enjoyment.

Strategy

The final design centers around functionality without sacrificing fun. Stay'n Play's brand identity shows how it's visual language reinforces the app’s goal: bold, high-contrast UI elements make it easy to navigate, while clear calls to action like “Add to Trip” or “View Details” simplify next steps. When viewing an event, users are instantly shown rental options nearby, complete with perks like walkability, free cancellation, and embedded maps to preview distances. On the flip side, booking a rental prompts the app to suggest events happening close by, making discovery feel effortless and relevant. The “Your Trips” tab provides a centralized space where users can access tickets, directions, and communication with rental hosts, organizing their plans into a single, accessible space. Additional widgets extend the app’s usefulness by offering quick shortcuts to favorite features, like saved events or rentals. The result is a cohesive user experience where everything, from the logo to interaction flow, supports the vision of stress-free trip planning. Stay’n Play doesn’t just combine two platforms, it reimagines what it means to plan your next adventure.
